Spider causes a stir

BARONS started their year in style when a 1967 Fiat Dino Spider hurtled past its £45,000-£60,000 estimate to sell for £83,600 Sandown Park.

The Pininfarina-bodied convertible was followed across the finish line by a 1956 Mercedes-Benz 190SL restoration project, which also exceeded estimate, achieving £47,300.

This was the first Barons sale for auctioneer, Duncan Brown, who had a busy saleroom and a packed auction catalogue to contend with. Following the success of his Barons debut he and the rest of the team will now gear up for the Spring Classic sale, also at Sandown Park, on April 22.

Reflecting on a strong start to the season, Barons’ Auction Manager Tim Gascoigne said, “The Fiat Dino Spider sold well because it was a really interesting car in very good condition and – most importantly – it was offered for sale at a sensible price which clearly engaged bidders, resulting in the final figure.”
