Classic VW stolen

Theft VW Karman, 19 November 2013

POLICE in Bournemouth are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after the theft of a classic Volkswagen in the Moordown area.

The vehicle was stolen from a garage on Clifford Road. The offenders forced entry to steal the dark red 1968 Volkswagen Karman Ghia Coupe belonging to a 67-year-old local man.

PC Oliver Smith said: “Following extensive enquiries, I am now able to release a historic picture of the stolen car. I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this theft take place, or has information about those involved to call Dorset Police immediately.

“The vehicle is of great sentimental value to the owner, who was given it by a relative back in 1970. They have since passed away.

“The car itself has perished tyres and an engine that has seized, thus rendering it un-driveable, so it’s likely those responsible have used a truck or lorry to take the vehicle away.

“I urge anyone who may have seen any suspicious transporter like vehicle in the area recently to contact police.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 12:357. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
