BEAULIEU’S popular supercar event, Supercar Showdown, is now in its sixth year and continues to go from strength to strength, with more than 5,700 attendees at this year’s show on Bank Holiday Monday.
There were 200 top-class vehicles on display, including contingents from the Wessex Car Club and the Porsche Club GB.
Beaulieu’s events co-ordinator, Andy Ollerenshaw, said: “We were delighted both with the number of supercars attending the event, up 60 on last year, and the quality of the vehicles. The cream of the supercar genre was on show, including the Bugatti Veyron and Pagani Huayra.”
Twice during the day, a selection of supercars was powered up to take part in the run through the Beaulieu parkland. There was also an opportunity for visitors to meet and chat with the owners of the cars – and even sit in some of them – and choose their favourite car of the day in the People’s Choice Awards.
A stunning Pagani Huayra, in metallic Dubai Red, took the top prize. Owned by Peter Read from London, it is the only example in the UK and one of only 125 produced in Europe. It has a top speed of 235mph. A close second was a Bugatti Veyron, owned by Andy Roshier who has owned the Pearlescent White Veyron since new in 2009.
The three runners-up were a black Lamborghini Murcielago, owned by Glenn Brooks from Andover, who took the top spot last year in his yellow Murcielago; a Lamborghini Aventador, brought to the show by Craig Cairns of H R Owen, and a Dodge Viper, owned by Mark Kidman from Reigate.
Other heavyweights of the supercar world on display were former Pink Floyd drummer, Nick Mason’s F40, a Shelby Ultimate Aero brought to the show by Elo, owner of the London Motor Museum, a Jaguar XJ220, one of only 10 ever made, two Aston Martins, a Vanquish and a V12 Vantage, and a Lamborghini Diablo Roadster, one of only five in the UK.
Also joining the event were Westover Nissan, Porsche Bournemouth, Meridien Motors, H R Owen of Pangbourne and Morgan UK, showcasing a selection of their most powerful and up-to-date models.
