Classics galore at Beaulieu

7

BEAULIEU kick-started it’s motor-fuelled Bank Holiday weekend with Simply Classics on Sunday.

This popular Simply rally saw a stunning range of pre-1988 vehicles drive into the grounds of the National Motor Museum to create a beautiful display of classic cars.

A number of clubs were in attendance, including the TR Register, Austin Healey Club and the C5Alive Sinclair C5 Owners’ Club, all of them bringing cars for visitors to admire.

Visitors were asked to vote for their favourite vehicle on display in the People’s Choice Awards. The winner was Mark Young, of Witchampton, Dorset, with his beautiful cream 1958 Jaguar XK150 SE drophead coupé. Mark was presented with a Beaulieu Trophy and Autoglym gift pack by Lord Montagu of Beaulieu.

The winner of the special prize draw for advance ticket holders was also announced, with Derek Maxwell of Devizes, Wiltshire, receiving a luxury Fortnum & Mason hamper.

The top 12 vehicles voted for in the awards took part in a cavalcade through the grounds, and were followed by a parade of 10 quirky Sinclair C5s that provided great entertainment for visitors.

Simply Classics is part of a whole series of Simply rallies, covering a range of makes, models and themes, run and organised by the Beaulieu events team. The provisional date for next year’s Simply Classics event is Sunday August 24.
