AN historic Alvis 3½-litre SA Sports Special will be offered at Dorset Vintage and Classic Auctions’ spring sale on Thursday March 21, to be held at the Gartell Light Railway, Yenston, near Templecombe in south Somerset.
Affectionately known as ‘Boadicea’, the 1936 Sports Special was built in the mid-1970s, based on an unrestored saloon rolling chassis. The Alvis enjoyed VSCC competition success after she was built, but has not been raced during the current custodianship of 35 years, during which time Boadicea has resided both in the USA and in Dorset.
DVCA boss Brian Chant says: “The motor car has been expertly maintained and remains in excellent condition. This certainly presents a rare opportunity to purchase a superb pre-war competition car, which has an estimate of £55,000 to £65,000.
DVCA’s sale will also offer a range of fine enthusiast classics, ranging from a very original 1924 Morris Cowley ‘Bullnose’ Two-Seat Tourer with dickey (£12,000-£14,000), and a rare 1936 Hudson Terraplane Drophead Coupe (£7,000-£9,000) to an attractive 1949 MG TC Midget (£20,000-£24,000) and a treasured 1960 Jaguar Mk II 2.4 (£9,000-£11,000).
