DORSET Vintage and Classic Auctions’ summer sale of historic cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles and memorabilia was a resounding success, with 75% of all vehicles sold.
The DVCA team welcomed hundreds of motoring enthusiasts who braved the inclement British weather to attend the sale at the Gartell Light Railway in Yenston, near Templecombe, Somerset.
The auction boasted a fine selection of Bentleys, which all found new custodians: a supremely elegant 1954 R-Type Drophead Coupe Special headed off to North Wales for £41,250, and a sporting Mk VI Special achieved £24,200. An extremely dilapidated 1949 Bentley Mk VI Saloon which had been in basic storage since the Queen’s Silver Jubilee sold for an exceptional price of £5,335, and a 1950 example of the same model made £8,525.
Pre-war cars were represented by a pretty 1936 Austin Seven Special which achieved an excellent £8,470, together with three restoration projects: a Ford Popular Model-Y Tudor Saloon which sold for £2,530 and two Austin Ten Saloons, making £1,650 and £1,375 respectively.
Motorcycles collectors were well catered for with an array of interesting machines: among others, a beautiful BSA A65D Lightning Rocket sold for £5,280, a rare gold-plated Honda Monkey Z50J achieved £2,970, and two Hondas from a private collection – a CBX100Z and a CB500 Four – sold for £4,895 and £3,850 respectively.
