Classic day at Castle Combe

CASTLE Combe circuit in Wiltshire is gearing up for its own quintessentially British ‘royal salute’ with the Classics & Sports Car Action Day on Saturday June 30.

The popular event, now in its 30th year, attracts thousands of retro, road, race and rally classic cars to the historic circuit near Chippenham.

This Jubilee year sees a host of special classic anniversaries, including the 60th for the Austin Healey, 50th for the MGB, Ford Cortina, Lotus Elan, Triumph Spitfire, Jensen CV8, AC Cobra and Alpine A110, 40th for the Jensen Healey and 25th for the Ferrari F40.

The retro Action Day will feature classic cars packing the paddock and lapping the historic 1.85-mile circuit, including a great British sports cars special theme, with bespoke display area in the paddock, which is free to all GB retro cars in attendance.

There will also be the ‘Giant Classic Cruise’ parade lap at lunchtime, where every paddock car is invited to join in a show-stopping display lap. Last year, more than 200 vehicles took part, making it one of the highlights of the event.

Club members and historic motoring enthusiasts also get the chance to experience the circuit at full tilt first-hand – from just £30 booked in advance (£35 on the day). Additionally, there’ll be ‘club parade’ 40mph escorted sessions specifically for British sports cars, classic cars, modern sports cars and the special cherished car sessions, so everyone can get on track.

The paddock will be packed with a plethora of outstanding classic cars, retro rally and circuit cars, motor clubs, trade stands and classic car collectors. And as usual, there’ll be the chance to be crowned the coveted ‘Car of the Show’ and ‘Club Stand of the Show,’ for any of the 60+ car clubs and 1,000+ cars.

Car clubs already signed up to attend the Classics & Sports Cars Action Day include TVR, Lotus 7, Jaguar Enthusiasts, MGF Register, Marcos International, Mk1 Rally Car International, World Rally Enthusiasts, MK Rally Register, Opel Manta OC, Westfield Cotswolds and many more.

Tickets are £12 per adult, with U16s free of charge. The circuit is open for admission from 8am, with action on track starting at 9am and finishing at 5pm.

  1. Awesome cars in this event; did any of these compete in the then-called “British Saloon Car Championship”? I ask because that blue car (Ford Anglia, isn’t it?) looks very familiar, I’ve seen old films of those darting around tracks like Thruxton in at the year 1970. If so, very great!
