THE Charterhouse auction of classic and vintage cars on Sunday April 22 offers collectors a great opportunity to buy two icons of motoring for a fraction of their real cost.
Matthew Whitney, motoring specialist at the Sherborne-based auctioneers, said: “The auction includes all the great names of classic motor cars such as Rolls Royce, Porsche, Bentley Jensen, Triumph and Healey and with estimates from just £500 up to £50,000 there is certainly something for everyone.
“However, for me, there are two cars I would love to take home and both are Jaguars – one is a beautifully hand-crafted and correct C-Type replica, and the other is a stunning XK120 recreation.”
In the market today, an original Jaguar C-Type, if you could find one, would cost over £1 million, and as a result there is a huge market for faithful replicas such as the one being offered by Charterhouse. Correct in every detail, this hand-made C-Type was registered in 2006, has only covered 1,500 miles and, with an estimate of £40,000, is a fraction of its cost to make.
The Jaguar XK120 is a brand new and unregistered car and has the benefit of modern engineering for modern touring and driving pleasure, with its 3.8 litre 6-cylinder fuel-injected engine and 5-speed ZF gearbox. Today it would cost well over £60,000 to commission, but is being offered for sale at only £45,000.
Viewing for the auction, being held at The Royal Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet, is on Saturday April 21 (10am-4pm) and on Sunday 22nd from 10am with the auction starting at 12.30pm. The sale can be viewed and downloaded on http://www.charterhouse-auctions.co.uk
