A BLACK and white photograph of world water speed record holder Bluebird, signed by Donald Campbell, is among the 900 lots of collectors’ items in the Charterhouse auction on Friday 23rd March in Sherborne.
“It’s an evocative photograph of Bluebird K4 travelling at speed, and it is signed by Donald Campbell with an inscription to someone called Neville,” said auctioneer Richard Bromell. “The photograph was found behind an old radiator in a Portsmouth house. It is a fabulous image which would now benefit from a light clean having resided there for many years.”
The Campbell family and the name Bluebird are synonymous with some of the most exciting land and water speed records during the 20th century. Both Sir Malcolm and his son Donald lost their lives in pursuit of being the fastest men on land, which together they achieved ten times and on water which they achieved eleven times.
The picture is expected to make between £100 and £200. For more details of this auction, contact Richard Bromell on 01935 81227 or go to their web site where the catalogue can be viewed and downloaded.
