A FINE collection of historic cars was offered at Dorset Vintage and Classic Auctions’ end-of-year sale, held at the Gartell Light Railway, Yenston, near Templecombe, Somerset.
A beautiful 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190SL was the star of the sale; the superb, restored example sold to a private enthusiast for £55,000, proving that valuable motor cars continue to be worthy and popular investment pieces.
Other notable results included an elegant Jaguar XK140 Roadster of 1956 vintage, which sold for £56,100, and a 1964 Bentley S3 Sports Saloon, which made a very respectable £23,650.
A 1963 Rover P4 110 saloon made £5,500, and a restored example of the ever-popular MGB sold for £11,825; this roadster was built in 1980 and had a V8 and chrome bumper conversion.
Vintage cars on offer at the sale included a rare 1934 Humber Snipe 80 Saloon, which sold to a collector for £9,075, and a 1922 Model T Ford Tourer, which made £11,000.
An interesting c.1935 Triumph Model 5/5 Motorcycle (with 5/2 500cc engine), in need of complete restoration, was purchased by Dutch enthusiast for £4,510.
