Motor Mouth’s Car of the week: Peugeot RCZ Coupé

Look out, you Germans, with your Audi TT and your VW Scirocco – here comes a rival in the beauty contest . . . from Peugeot, of all people!

Yes, seriously, the arrival this month of the curvaceous RCZ Coupé represents a significant departure for the French carmaker and it has all the ingredients to make a real impact with those who want more glamour than they’d get from a warm hatch.

There is a range of 1.6 and 2.0-litre engines, a dazzling ‘double bubble’ cockpit, a huge list of bells and whistles to personalise the thing, and a promise of great handling and zippy performance.

It’s being called an affordable supercar and with prices starting at under £20k, that’s a fair description. More cynical types have called it a 308 in a sexy dress.

MM verdict: Style over substance? But what a looker.
