Vauxhall have proved that an electric car doesn’t have to look like an overweight armadillo with the unveiling of the sleek, aggressive-looking Ampera.
It has five doors, four seats, plenty of luggage space and its aerodynamic styling and on-board generator mean it will do 300 miles between power boosts.
Launched to a blaze of publicity at the Geneva Motor Show, the Ampera joins the zapped-up Vauxhall range and will reach British showrooms in 2012 when they have installed a steering wheel on the correct side.
Smart, practical, whistle-clean – and it simply plugs into a household wall socket. A stylish farewell to petrol station visits.
MM verdict: So GM can do sensible after all.
