Saab are making quite a song and dance about their new flagship model but there must be a danger that potential clients will by deterred by the ongoing uncertainty concerning the company’s future ownership.
The Swedish outfit’s fortunes have had their ups and downs over the years and the all-new 9-5 saloon is being trumpeted as their most technically advanced model ever, with a great array of high-tech tricks and treats. But then, of course, it has to be as it will be up against some formidable opposition.
Still, the Saab looks nice, with its sleek, sporty profile, and the firm’s all-wheel-drive system (necessary for dodging jaywalking elk, no doubt) is available on some models. Engines are 1.6, 2.0 and 2.8-litre, turbo-charged, petrol or diesel, and they’ll be quick on their feet.
MM verdict: It will have its work cut out to compete in a tough segment.
