By the time this high-velocity masterpiece arrives in showrooms early in 2011, McLaren reckon the state of the world’s economy will be improved enough to welcome it.
The MP4-12C is the first in what the Woking-based supercar builders are calling a new range of high-performance sports cars, inspired by their Formula One pedigree.
At its heart, this mid-engined two-seater features a revolutionary carbon fibre chassis and a 3.8-litre, V8 twin-turbo engine producing around 600bhp, with seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
It will be aimed at the £125,000 to £175,000 price segment of the market, so that rules a few of us out, and McLaren insist that, unlike some of its rivals, it will be a highly efficient and driveable car.
MM verdict: a glorious new poster for small boys’ bedroom walls.
