One man’s ‘timeless’ is another person’s ‘dated’ and I’d put the G-Class (G for Gigantic?) in the latter category; it looks like it should be on the deck of a container ship.
This monster, now 30 years old and due to return to the UK market after a 10-year absence, comes with a choice of diesel or supercharged petrol engines – depending presumably on the size of the country you’re planning to invade in it.
Mercedes-Benz are, naturally, crowing about its peerless off-road ability, its go-anywhere, do-anything credentials, and talking up its impressive list of luxury features and cutting-edge technology.
There’ll be a G350 CDI that returns 25.7mpg and a range-topping G55 AMG Kompressor that will hit 62mph in 5.5 seconds – a pretty terrifying thought for such a massive chunk of metal. Prices start at a touch under £58k and finish around £115k.
MM verdict: There’s just one unanswered question: why?
